Transformation in to a Corporate Entrepreneur
Deepak Pandit took over as Country Manager, India for STM in the second half of 2007. Deepak has, during the past year, built up awareness on STM in the Indian market and the technology edge that STM enjoys globally in the VSAT Industry with its Satlink DVB RCS platform. He has also been responsible for operationalizing STM Softech Private Limited, the fully owned subsidiary of STM group in India, and setting up a software development facility. With the core team and industry relationships now in place, STM is poised for exponential growth in the Indian market.
The decision to take a start up position in an entrepreneurial role was a culmination of an inner urge to benefit from the corporate entrepreneurship model practiced by start ups in high technology sector. In addition was the opportunity to create an organization from scratch with the accompanying challenges of recruiting, managing and leading professionals and moulding them into a winning team. Deepak left a well placed secure job with a top notch Telecom Multinational to pursue this opportunity.
Deepak had over 12 years of Industry experience prior to joining STM, his previous assignment was with Motorola India, where he has handling high tech emerging segments like WiMax and Value added applications. During this stint he was responsible for the first WiMax 16 d deployment in India with BSNL and for niche solutions on Data Compressions for 3G roll out for a major telecom operator in India. Deepak has been associated with the Satellite Industry since 2001 and was a significant contributor to the success of Gilat Satellite Networks in India. During his stint with Gilat he was involved in opening up emerging segments for VSATs such as Commodities exchanges and was instrumental in Gilat’s participation in the e-choupal networks in the rural sector. He managed the shared hub operations on Gilat systems for three major National Service Providers and developed innovative business models for achieving sustained growth for the shared hub segment.
Deepak started his career with HCL in 1995 where he was recruited from campus as a part of the common campus recruitment programme of the group. In almost five years that he spent with HCL, he had a string of successes in Sales and served in a variety of roles under the Senior Management Trainee programme of HCL Corporation in India. His last assignment within HCL was with HCL Technologies in Hong Kong as Business Development Manager where he was involved in setting up an overseas subsidiary and market development activities for Software project sales in Hong Kong and Greater China.

Deepak is an MBA from Birla Institute of Management Technology, New Delhi and holds a first class Honours degree in Commerce from University of Delhi.
Deepak is also currently an Executive Doctoral student at Management Development Institute, Gurgaon in the area of Strategic Management. His areas of interests include Organizational Strategy, Corporate Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Management of Technology.
